Shrek the Third ("Shrek the Third"through the efforts of Russian distributors) turned out to be a very controversial film. On one side of the viewer’s scales there were colorful graphics and popularly beloved characters, on the other – a mediocre plot, weak humor and pale, especially against the backdrop of the ogre and Co., characters. However, all this affected the box office in the most insignificant way – the substantial budget spent on creating the film was recouped very quickly. But be that as it may, the third part of Shrek’s adventures was never able to reach the high standard of quality set by the two previous series, and in particular the second.
In the gaming field, the situation is completely different. Driven by Activision 7 Studios, it continuously releases virtual adaptations of “gro-adventures”, precisely timing the next premiere. Unlike their movie counterparts, cross-platform Shreks get better from game to game. Checkpoint Shrek: Game Land Activity Center, wretched Shrek 2: The Game, average Shrek 2: Team Action and magnificent Shrek SuperSlam. Now we can add to this list Shrek the Third.
All the key protagonists of the threequel have successfully migrated to screens. In total, the title has six characters: Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots, Sleeping Beauty, etc. It takes a long time to get used to controlling cartoons, since it is not implemented using the most common method. According to their variety, blows are divided into regular, powerful and special. The arrow keys, usually reserved by developers for movement functions, are responsible for three types of attacks. The heaviest load, therefore, falls on the fingers of the right hand, constantly hammering with effort along the “arrows”. Depending on the degree of effectiveness of the final thrust into the area of the enemy’s face, treasured points are awarded to the player’s account – the benefit of the types of super attacks in Shrek the Third overrepresented.
The combat system is as simple as two. Any user who is even more or less familiar with a computer can restore order in the fairy-tale kingdom. Another thing is that avid action fans don’t like this set of circumstances much. In light of the above, there is no need to worry about the health of the green giant and his friends. The usual hit point bar is simply absent here. The moment the character approaches death is clearly recorded by the screen beginning to flicker red. If this suddenly happens, you urgently need to get saving dust. How? Knock out nearby enemies. IN Shrek the Third everything is tied to aggression. Medical powder, by the way, promotes frequent use of time dilation mode. With slow-mo turned on, already simple fighting games turn into sheer entertainment – Shrek’s blows rain down like a hail left and right, catching slowed-down opponents. True, access to bullet-time is open only to the ogre and his wife; the rest have to rely solely on their own strength.
The single player campaign https://sing55casino.co.uk/games/ is completely linear. Some variety in the passage is brought by mini-games that successfully cope with their entertainment function. Arcade fun brings not only fun, but also bonuses, which, by the way, are through the roof in the game. Upgraded attacks, additional difficulty levels, secret costumes for the protagonists – to get all this you will have to spend a fair amount of time playing the game.
From a graphical point of view, the brainchild of 7 Studios looks like a C+. The character models came out a little clumsy, and the animation was wooden. At the same time, the “under-buratins” run around colorful and well-drawn locations. The misadventures of the heroes, by the way, take place not only in classic, cinematic settings. The new environment, not included in the film, fits organically into the world of the game. But the main problem Shrek the Third lies not at all in the mediocre, albeit bright, visual performance, but in the general unfinished state. The first stone is in the garden of the virtual operator. At times the camera behaves quite decently, but most of the time it exposes all its bad habits to the general public. Sudden movements in space, getting stuck in invisible walls are typical phenomena for her. However, this, coupled with unexpected crashes to the desktop, somehow lends itself to common sense – ordinary platformer sores, after all – but the disgusting picture exclusively in the most popular resolution 1024×768 causes sincere bewilderment.
Having sensibly assessed the capabilities of the project’s “engine”, the authors did not make videos on the engine, replacing them with good scenes in a puppet theater and pseudo-comics. The full immersive effect could have been provided by Hollywood stars who lent their voices to the animated fraternity, but, alas, it didn’t work out. Either the developers didn’t have enough money, or something else. The resulting voice acting is not a fountain. Of course, you can’t call it a failure, but when instead of Eddie Murphy (voice of Donkey) you hear a hitherto unfamiliar baritone, slight disappointment sets in.
Multiplayer mode can’t be cut down. There is only one medieval game to choose from. Each player is given a castle, a catapult and a ballista, the task is to be the first to demolish five enemy towers.
If we evaluate Shrek the Third Only through the prism of “games based on”, 7 Studios employees can safely take out their books. Against the background of spring-summer tandems, the film-game, the third coming of Shrek is in an advantageous position. However, simply comparing the project with the most successful representatives of action/platformers, the same cannot be said. All the salt is shoddily executed. Needless to say, the project was clearly tailored to the world premiere of the animated film. If Activision had given the developers a little more time to final polish the game, you see from Shrek the Third and it would turn out to be a real masterpiece. Otherwise it’s just a good product, with a fly in the ointment in the form of total imperfection.
Pros: addictive gameplay, familiar and beloved gaming universe.
Cons: a large number of bugs and shortcomings, capricious camera.
